Yetive “Yetty” Garen White, of Midland, TX died peacefully at home with family by her side on July 11, 2018, two days before her 92nd birthday. Yetty was born on July 13, 1926 in Roswell, NM to Howard and Thressa (Holcomb) Garen. She spent her formative years in Elk City, OK raised by a single mother with her older sister.Yetty married Robert Newton White, M.D. in 1950. In 1955, they moved to Midland, TX where they raised their three daughters. Above all else, she was a dedicated mother who always put her family first. In Midland, Yetty was an active member of her community. She volunteered with Doctor’s Wives and the Midland Cancer Society, and helped establish the Midland Symphony Debutantes. She was very active in the Midland Community Theatre, serving as the first president of The Benevolent Order of HamHocks and acting in Summer Mummers and other early MCT productions including notable roles as Ado Annie in Oklahoma and Mammy Yokum in Lil’ Abner. She loved tennis and was an avid golfer, serving as a board member and president of the Ladies Golf Association at Midland Country Club. In her most daring years, she even learned to fly a plane.Yetty was known and will be remembered for her smile, her laugh, her sense of humor, her dance moves, her knowledge of sports, her fried chicken, her hot sauce, and her focus on others, which was most often manifested in making sure everyone was comfortable and well fed. Throughout her life Yetty was a force of nature. She never met a stranger and had a unique gift of connecting with people everywhere she went. This was her ministry.As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Yetty’s greatest joy was her family and she always gave them unconditional love and support. Yetty is survived by her three daughters, Cathy Cross (Mike), Liz Hoffman (Kent) both of Oklahoma City, OK, and Anne Hover (George) of Midland; nine grandchildren, Cadee Coulter (Cale), Whitney Moore (Jeff), Alex Corp (Collin) all of Oklahoma City, Garen Eadie (Hutton) of Nashville, TN, Daniel Hover of Midland, Hillary Hover of Bellingham, WA, Zach Hoffman (Molly), Sam Hoffman (Ana) both of New York City, NY, and Will Hoffman (Charisa) of Salt Lake City, UT; nine great-grandchildren, Patrick, Eloise, George, Fletcher, and Sam all of Oklahoma City, Leland and Margaret Anne of Nashville, and Mountain and Bob of Midland; sister, Rene Rouse of Yuba City, CA; many beloved nieces and nephews and their children; and her loyal four-legged companion Lila. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and many close friends.Her family thanks God for the gift of her in our lives and rejoices in knowing that she is with God, yet still alive in our hearts, and that we will see her again in heaven.A memorial service celebrating Yetty’s life will be held on Saturday July 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church 1412 W. Illinois Midland, TX. There will be a private family burial.The family would like to thank the exceptional caregivers from Hospice Midland and Visiting Angels who helped care for Yetty in her final weeks of life.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor her by having a conversation with an acquaintance or sharing a meal with a neighbor.
