Wilson L. Sikes, 88, of Midland, formerly of Ackerly, died on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel, Big Spring with Rev. Don Knight, pastor of Cuthbert Avenue Baptist Church of Midland, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.He was born on March 23, 1919, in Mingus, Texas and married Helen Clark on March 1, 1941 in Lorenzo, Texas.Mr. Sikes came to Ackerly in 1958 and then moved to Vincent in 1981. He drove a butane truck for Ackerly Oil Company for 20 years. He was a member of Cuthbert Avenue Baptist Church in Midland and served in the United States Army during World War II.Survivors include his wife, Helen Sikes of Midland; three daughters, Patricia Schuelke, Sandra Sikes, and Pamela Sikes all of Midland; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one nephew and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Myrtle Sikes; one brother, L. C. Sikes and one sister, Erlene Mashburn. The family suggests memorials be made to Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home, 1809 N.
