Wilma Joyce Chapman Rowell, age 80, passed through the gates of heaven in the early hours of Friday, August 11th, 2023. Wilma was born on June 19, 1943 in Brownwood, TX to Gracie and Earl Chapman. She always reminisced about her childhood growing up with her 3 brothers; Cecil, Elmer, and Johnny and her younger sister Kathy. Wilma met the man who would someday be her husband when she was just 13 years old. Wilma married Steven “Max” Rowell on her 18th birthday, before long they had their first 4 children; Michael Ray, Kenneth Wayne, Joyce Caroleen, and Steven “Lee.” Wilma was born to be a mom and just when she was almost done raising the first 4 she had 2 more children Mandy Altalee and John Alton. Wilma wasn’t done yet, 10 years passed before she welcomed her last child Christy Deniese to the world. Wilma was a natural born caregiver and even though she had 7 children of her own, this did not stop her from caring for and loving the neighborhood kids as well. She was known by most as simply “Granny.” Wilma’s light and love were obvious to anyone who met her. To know her was to truly know the love Jesus teaches us about in the Bible. Her selflessness was unsurpassed. Wilma was a woman of faith and a true beacon of God’s light. She loved to sing, laugh, and talk over a cup of coffee. Wilma leaves behind her 7 children, 17 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Wilma was reunited with her husband, Mother, Father, 3 of her siblings, and a grandchild when she entered into Heaven. What a joyous reunion it must have been! The family would like to express their gratitude towards Hospice of Midland and the nurses and staff of Midland Medical Lodge. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, Monday, August 14, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 10:00am, Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Serenity Memorial Gardens.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
