Willis Eugene Tally of Midland, Texas passed away at the age of 88 on Saturday, October 13, 2012, surrounded by family at Midland Memorial Hospital. Known as Will, W.E. or Tally to his friends and Papa to his family, Will was a man from a different era; his commitment to his family, God, country and his business were uncommon. Will was born on July 31, 1924 in Colbert, Oklahoma. He was married for 54 years to his beloved wife Lee Scott Tally, who preceded him in death in September 1998. Will and Lee are survived by three daughters: Sherry Buck who resides in Odessa with her husband Richard, Susan Wise who resides in San Antonio with her husband Wade, and Lee Ann Miller who resides in Austin. Will is the loving grandfather to 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Will presided over his family as a faithful patriarch. His unyielding example, direct advice, sharp sense of humor, and unforgettable voice hold an eternal place in the hearts and minds of his family. Will was a member of First Baptist Church in Midland. His relationship with God informed his relationship with his family and all those around him. Will served as a sergeant in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during the Second World War. Will was a fierce patriot, who very much enjoyed politics and an animated debate with those who did not share his spirited views. In his working life, Will lived a Horatio Alger story. Lacking in formal education, Will attained success in business and industry through innate ingenuity, persistence and work ethic and lived by the principal that hard work was the cornerstone of success. He built several successful businesses from the ground up, including Standard Industrial Manufacturing in Odessa, which he owned until his death. Will leaves the management of Standard in the capable hands of long-time business partner and friend Jack Sitton. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 20 at Resthaven Memorial Park, to be attended by family, close friends, and his faithful and patient house manager, friend and caregiver, Aggie Della Rocco. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Midland, Texas. While his family mourns the loss of one they held so dear and one who provided so much stability, direction and love, they are comforted to know that he is now in a place where he can give their Nana a hug.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
