After a full life of 99 years Willie Merle Caffey Haag passed away peacefully in the morning of December 18, 2018.Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church at 10:00 A.M. on January 5, 2019 with Melissa Shuler officiating. The interment following at the Fairview cemetery.Merle was survived by her two daughters, Barbara Sheppard and Janice Dunsirn. She had three grandchildren: Lisa Dunsirn McLaughlin, Shelly Sheppard-Adams and Christopher R. Dunsirn. She had three great grandchildren: Sydney, Kellen and Finn McLaughlin.Merle met her husband, Merwin Haag, in High School and had a happy 57 years together until his death. She was his support throughout his business life in farming and ranching and later in the oil and gas industry.Merle was born February 17, 1919 in Anson, Texas to Samuel Layfette Caffey and Della Smith Caffey. Many wonderful stories were told over the years of her time in her large loving family. She was the youngest of seven children.Merle graduated from Midland High School, class of 1936. One of her dreams was continuing her education so once her girls were out on their own, she returned to school earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. She had a deep interest in genealogy so she began a decades’ search and discovery of her family’s history. After trips to courthouses, talking to new found family members, her efforts lead to many descendants some of which made her eligibility for membership in The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, The Daughters of the American Revolution and a charter membership in The Col. Theunis Dey Chapter of the DAR. She served in several official capacities in her chapter including serving as Regent for DAR. She was a member of the Dr. Woodson Chapter of the Colonial Dames. All her research lead to the discovery that she was a living descendent of a Baron of the Magna Carta making her a member of The Order of the Garter. Her roots even dated back to Alfred the Great.A lifelong member of The First United Methodist Church she taught Sunday School, served on the official Board and as President of the United Methodist Women.,
