Willie Mae (Koenning) McMurry, 86, passed away November 21, 2022. Willie Mae was born August 11, 1936, in Electra, Texas, to Selma Augusta Kahl Koenning and Willie Ernest Koenning. She was born at home, and her Mother told her that it was 111 degrees outside that day.
Wille Mae was a hairdresser by trade, but also loved to bake and was fondly known around town as “the cake lady”. She loved to cook for her family, and they returned her enjoyment every time they sat at her table!
Willie Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Clarence Koenning and Elmer Koenning; and nephews David Koenning and Don Koenning.
Willie Mae, or “Mae Mae” to her grandchildren, is survived by her sons and their wives, Laddy & Linda McMurry and Teddy & Debbie McMurry; her grandchildren and their spouses, Joel & Brooke Holland, Alyssa & Zach Spence; Jennifer & Greg Greer, and Jeremy & Kourtney Church; and her great-grandchildren, Kailee Paxton, Elli Holland, Preslee Holland, Lawson Spence, Jett Spence, Briley Greer, Jolie Greer, Brad Church and Alex Church. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Eva Mae Koenning, nephew Mike Koenning, and favorite cousin Mary Sue Bessonette.
The family greatly appreciates all of the caregivers and staff of Ashton Medical Lodge and Star Hospice who cared for and showed patience and kindness to Willie Mae over the last few years of her life.
Graveside services are scheduled for 3:00 PM on December 3, 2022, at Resthaven Memorial Park, with Pastor Steve Weaver officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
