William Austin Womack passed away at his home of 51 years on May 3, 2022 at the age of 100. He was born on October 11, 1921 in Fort Worth, TX to Bertha and William Womack.
After graduating high school, William enlisted in the Texas National Guard. During World War II, William served in North Africa, Italy, Austria and Germany in the 131st Artillery Battalion of the 36th Infantry of the United States Army. After being discharged in 1945, he attended Texas Christian University, earning a degree in Geology. While working in the Oil Industry in Abilene, he met his future wife Charlene Gerhard. They were married in 1952 in Ft. Worth, TX and lived in Abilene. They continued their family journey and moved to Midland, Ft. Smith, AR, Oklahoma City, and returning to Midland in 1971.
William is survived by, son Rhea Womack of Valley Glen, CA, daughter and son-in-law Lori and Jim Granbery of Gardendale, TX, daughter-in-heart Cindy Bledsoe of Midland, Grandchildren Kristin Davis and husband Chris of Gardendale, Austin Bryant of Bangor, WA, Hollyn Hensley and husband Dylan of North Richland Hills, TX and great- grandchildren, Miranda, Char, William and Stevie.
William’s family would like to thank all the beautiful staff at Kindred Hospice for their loving care, support, and compassion. We also thank Don Murphy of First Christian Church, Yolanda Guzman, Roy Bermea, Johni and Morgan Smedley, and all their faithful friends and family.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 9, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home, 3800 N. Big Spring, St. Midland, 79705. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 11:30 AM at First Christian Church, 1301 W. Louisiana Avenue, Midland, TX 79701. A burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, 4616 N Big Spring St, Midland, Texas 79705
