William T. "Tom" Gans was born on April 15, 1943 in Auburn, New York to William and Alta Frances Loeper Gans. Tom died Monday, April 4, 2005 after a brief illness. Funeral service will be held today, April 7, 2005 at 2:00 PM at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel, 3800 N. Big Spring St. in Midland.Tom was raised in New York State and married Josephine Campbell June 14, 1969 in Wellsville, New York. He graduated from Sherwood Central School in Sherwood, New York in 1961 as Valedictorian. He attended the University of Rochester, in Rochester, New York with a BS in Geology in 1965 and Rice University, in Houston, Texas with a PhD in Geology in 1970.Tom was an Assistant Professor of Geology at Humboldt State University for 4 years, a Geologist for Conoco for 25 years; worked in Ventura, CA, Oklahoma City, OK, London, England, Ponca City, OK and Midland, Texas retiring in 2002.His hobbies were collecting Sherlock Holmes memorabilia, computers, reading and travel. He was proud of his daughters and their accomplishments. Kathleen has a MS in Geophysics from the University of California at Santa Barbara and has traveled the world including time in India. Christine has a MS in Geology from Penn State and has traveled the world including several trips to Tanzania East Africa as a Research Assistant.He is survived by his wife, Josephine Gans of Midland; two daughters, Kathleen Gans of Mountain View, CA and Christine Gans of Syracuse, NY; two sisters, Carol Gans of Hudson, NY and Beverly Gans Graham of Danbury, CT; a nephew, Mickey Graham of Valhalla, NY and a niece, Kelly Graham of Syracuse, NY.Memorials may be made to the Midland County Library, 301 West Missouri, Midland, Texas 79701.,
