William R. "Bob" Bickley, 88, of Pecos, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2007, in Midland. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2007 at 11:00 am at the St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Pecos.Bob was born September 22, 1918 in Merkel, Texas to Josephus and Mabel Bickley. He married Billie Shields on June 18, 1941 in Abilene.Bob graduated from Merkel High School and McMurray College in Abilene. He served in the Army in World War II, receiving the Croix de Guerre, a medal for bravery, awarded by the French government. He was the general manager of West Texas Cooperative Oil Mill. He was an avid bird hunter. He was also a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.Bob was very committed to his community. He served on the school board, city council and two terms as mayor of Pecos. He was president of Texas Cottonseed Crusher Association, and served on the board of the National Cotton Council. He also served on the board of directors of Security State Bank and Balmorhea Ranches.Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Martee and Bob Stuart of Midland; a daughter, Linda Hayes of El Paso; a daughter and son-in-law, Betsey and Ken Slack of Dallas; six grandchildren: David Lumpkin and his wife Adriana, Julie Davis and her husband Don, Lee Slack, Will Slack, Matthew Perez, Jennifer Perez; and six great-grandchildren.Memorials may be sent to West of the Pecos Museum, PO Box 1784, Pecos, TX 79772 or to the charity of your choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
