William \Pop\ King, 92, of Coahoma, died Saturday, December 15, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the Coahoma Church of Christ with Eddy Pitchford, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, December 17, 2012, at the funeral home.Pop was born February 26, 1920, in Loraine, Texas and married Lucille Moore April 10, 1947 in Sweetwater. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2011.Pop was the oldest of 12 children and after Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1942, he was the first draftee from Mitchell County. He served in the Unted States Army and was captured in North Afica. He was transported as a Prisoner of War to Stuttgart, Germany, where Patton's Army came to his rescue. After this, he was wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart. He is one of the \Greatest Generation.\ Pop was well known in Coahoma for his support the community and the school. For years he traveled on the bus with the band to the out-of-town football games. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his family, who he loved so much.He was a faithful member of Coahoma Church of Christ.Survivors include one son, Billy King and wife, Ginger of Coahoma; two daughters, Rose Thomas of Austin and Judy Thomas and husband, Darren of Roundrock; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; three brothers, J.R. King, E.F. King, and Calvin King; two sisters, Thelma and Katherine; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Pop was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, Bruce, Ollie, James, Louise, Julia, and Alvin.
