William James "Bill" Rust, 72, of Midland, died on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at his residence. Graveside services will be held at Serenity Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 10:00am. The family received friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Thursday at the funeral home.Bill was born on July 15, 1938 in Handley, Texas. His family moved to Midland in 1949. Bill was interested in auto mechanics from his teens. He focused on foreign car repairs and worked for 15 years for Overseas Motors Corporation in Lubbock, Fort Worth and Houston. He married Ethel Matthews on June 5, 1976 in Houston. Bill returned to Midland and opened The Pit Stop in 1977 where he specialized in British car repairs.Bill enjoyed running the bar-b-que booth at St. Ann's Fair for several years, working with the Boy Scouts, and participating in historical re-enactments.Survivors include wife, Ethel Rust of Midland, Texas; one son, W.J. Rust and wife Ginger of Santa Fe, Texas; two brothers, Roy Rust of Dallas and Danny Rust and wife Sharyn of Lake Cherokee, Texas; and a sister, JoAnne Lindsey of Waskom, Texas.He was preceded in death by his parents.The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Midland, PO Box 2621, Midland, TX 79702.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
