William Howard Shanks, 76, of Big Spring, died on Friday, July 22, 2005, in a local hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 25, 2005 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Ken McMeans, pastor of College Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.Howard Shanks was born on February 9, 1929, in Comanche County to Grover Cleveland and Clara Hightower Shanks.Mr. Shanks moved to Big Spring in 1940 and married Charlene Perkins on June 30, 1949.He served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1953, was an avid cattle rancher and retired as an electrician from American Petrofina Oil Co. in 1984.His love for his family and his unwavering faith were never diminished by time.He is survived by his wife, Charlene Shanks of Big Spring; one daughter, Janet Burks of Midland; two sons, Gary Shanks of Justin, and David Shanks of San Antonio; one grandson, Haven Carr of Midland; one sister, Jimmye Burks of Big Spring; five brothers, Clim Shanks, Charlie Shanks and Wade Shanks all of Big Spring, Grover Shanks of May and Autov Shanks of Del Rio; 14 nieces and 11 nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Norene Guill and Eva Mae Shanks, and two brothers, Doyle and John Shanks.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
