William Asa Seal, Jr. of Midland passed away on May 11, 2010 at the age of 84 years. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 14, 2010 at Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity, 1412 West Illinois Ave., in Midland with, Father John Wedgwood-Greenhow officiating.Born in Wellington, Kansas, July 29, 1925 to William Asa and Mary Seal. Graduated from Wellington High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy as Lt. J.G. 1943-1947. Following discharge from the Navy he attended the University of Okalahoma. While there he played football when Bud Wilkinson was coach. He graduated in 1949 with a degree in Geological Engineering. He went to work for Stanolind Oil and Gas Company in Oshkosh, Nebraska and then Vernal, Utah, where he met and married Leila Baucum, November 24, 1950. He then went to work for Southern Geophysical Company and was transferred to Tulia, Texas. He was then transferred to Seagraves, Tahoka, Kermit, Brownfield and Tatum, New Mexico. He then went to work for Continental Geophysical Company as Divisional Manager in 1953 and they lived in Sherman and Lamesa, Texas; and Dickinson, North Dakota then moved to Midland in October of 1954. In 1967 Teledyne Exploration purchased Continental Geophysical and he was promoted to vice President. He worked for Teledyne until his retirement in 1987.He was a member of The American Association of Petroleum Geologists; West Texas Geological Society; Permian Basin Geophysical Society; and Society of Exploration Geophysicists where he served as chairman of the National Scholarship Committee in 1973. He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry.He is survived by wife Leila, children Bradford W. Seal and Craig C. Seal of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; Jeffery T. Seal and wife Nancy of Buda, Texas; daughter Sally and husband Mark Opachan; grandchildren Alexis and Ryan Opachan of Midland; step-grandchildren Amanda and John Opachan; sister Margaret Seal of Wellington, Kansas.Memorials may be given to Centennial Valley Volunteer Fire Department at Box 231, Centennial, Wyoming 82055; Hospice of Midland or a charity of choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory of Midland.
