Wendell Louis Miller aged 71 passed away March 31, 2025, at his home in Midland, TX after a lengthy battle with illness that he fought with much bravery.
Wendell was born February 15, 1954, in Snyder, Texas to Joseph Winford “Wimp” Miller and Peggy Joan Scott.
Wendell was raised in a family of hard-working folks in the oil & gas industry. Growing up he lived in many places with his mother and father. Eventually they made their way back to West Texas and settled in Seminole, Texas.
As a youth, Wendell excelled in all sports. He played basketball, baseball, track & field, and football. He attended Seminole High School and graduated in the class of 1972. He was an accomplished football player. He served as captain of the varsity football team his senior year. He was recruited and received a scholarship to play college football. Wendell broadened his education and obtained his Associates in Aviation Maintenance Technology from Midland College.
Wendell was a sports and muscle car enthusiast. He owned several sports and muscle cars through his lifetime. He also loved off-roading in his Blazer and snowmobiling in the mountains. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter and had a vast knowledge of hunting rifles and knives.
Wendell enjoyed reading books. He often researched cars, guns, knives, Native American history, and world history to name a few. He shared his knowledge with his likeminded friends and family and was a wonderful storyteller.
Wendell began working in the oil & gas industry after moving to Midland, Texas. He worked for Schlumberger for several years as a Senior Wire Line Operator. He eventually worked for Smith Energy Services companies as a heavy equipment mechanic, and as a location down-hole operator for many years.
Wendell is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years Darlene Miller, daughter Kinsey Allen and her husband Ron Allen, grandson Colton Scott Allen and granddaughter Heidi Kate Allen of Forney, Texas, and his cherished Aunt Gynell McMillen of Midland, Texas.
Wendell is preceded in death by his father Joseph Winford “Wimp” Miller, mother Peggy Miller, Uncle Arlen Huston McMillen, and Cousin Arlen Devoe McMillen.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards the MMH hospital nurses and staff, Hospice of Midland, and home health caretakers Roberta Banks and her daughter Sonja.
To honor Wendell’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. We invite you to celebrate Wendell’s memory in your own way. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Big Bend Conservancy Memorials and Honorariums (bigbendconservancy.org) benefitting Big Bend National Park.
