Webb Harris McDaniel left this earth to return home into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Friday, May 28th in Midland at the Hospice unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. His courageous battle with Alzheimer's is now over. Webb was born on October 12, 1926 in Ellis County to Scott B. and Elizabeth Ewing McDaniel. He attended school in Ferris, Texas and upon graduation from high school; Webb served in the Army during World War II. After being discharged he attended SMU and following graduation in 1950, he began his career as a landman with Sun Oil Company in Dallas. On March 7, 1952 in Ferris, Texas he married the love of his life Barbara Jane Watson whom he referred to as "Janie". Later he moved to Midland with Seaboard Oil and spent 36 years working for Texaco. He retired on December 31, 1988. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling the world with his sweet wife and being involved with his four children and grandkids, which he adored. He also loved his coffee groups that met weekly at McDonalds.Webb loved his Lord and was a longtime member of Crestview Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon for many years. His devotion to serving others was evident in many areas of his life and included his volunteering at the Midland Baptist Crisis Center and on the benevolence committee at his church.Webb loved people and never met a stranger; he loved talking about his ponies and the Doak Walker days or bragging about his 9 grandkids to anyone who would listen. His grandkids will always cherish the picnics in the park, the "drinking bank", library, and trips to the Sandhills. Webb will be missed by all, but mostly by his wife of 58 years, Jane McDaniel of Midland; his brother Jack McDaniel and wife Ann of Waxahachie; brother-in-law Clinton Watson, and wife Colleen of Ferris. Also, his four children; Kay McDaniel Melton and husband Dennis of Blooming Grove; Scott McDaniel and wife Carla; Tom McDaniel and wife Sharla; and Tod McDaniel and wife Sandy all of Midland. His "favorite" grandchildren Jennifer Heil and husband Darren, Ben and Mike Melton all of Blooming Grove; Jeff, Meredith, and Trent McDaniel of Midland; Paige Bartlett and husband Scotty, Kathryn and Laura McDaniel all of Lubbock. Also, three great-grandchildren; Calvin, Bethany and Alexah, numerous nieces and nephews, and lifelong friend Bill Allbritton, and his wife Donaldeen, as well as many other treasured friends.The family wishes to thank the staff at Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Veterans Home, Compass Hospice, and Hospice of Midland for their loving care; as well as Dr. Chau Le.The family will receive friends at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland on Monday, May 31st from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Burial will be at Resthaven on Tuesday, June 1st at 9:00 a.m. Memorial services are scheduled for Tuesday, June 1st at 1:00 pm at Crestview Baptist Church in Midland with Dr. Presnall Wood of Dallas, Texas and Ty Morris, Jr. of Midland officiating.
