Wanda Joy West, 86, of Midland passed away on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Midland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 11:00AM at Golf Course Road Church of Christ. Graveside services will be on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 2:00PM at Fairview Cemetery in Midland. Joy was born on August 23, 1926 in Desdemona, Texas to Earl and Verda Lane. She graduated from Robstown High School. She was introduced to Floyd C. West by Buddy Vickers and married him on November 5, 1943 in Banquette, TX at Tom and Marty Harper's farmhouse. They lived near Banquette, where the first two children, Monte and Paul, were born. Floyd and Joy moved to McAllen where Jolane was born. In 1952 or 1953 they moved to Monahans where Marty was born. Londa was born in Kermit when the hospital in Monahans was being converted to a library. Joy was a devoted mother to her five children all of her life. Joy won the Mrs. West Texas title in the late 50's by performing in cooking, ironing, sewing, and beauty contests. She worked with Floyd in the Jaycees for years and was a homemaker. In the early 60's she went to work at First State Bank in Monahans until 1985. The next year they moved to Midland where Floyd died in 1990. Staying in Midland she met Alton Mac McKinney in 1993 by asking him to install a ceiling fan. They married on February 11, 1995 in Sweetwater, and they made their home in Midland for the next 17 plus years. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with them. She enjoyed taking them to different activities that they were involved in and keeping them in the summers. She took college courses, played bridge, loved hiking, cooking, visits to Corpus where most of the West family is from, bowling trips with the kids and could clean meticulously. She enjoyed drag racing with Mac and building their car Joy's Toy together. Wanda Joy never met a stranger. She had a very sharp memory and could remember every detail. Joy was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a member of the Golf Course Road Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband, Alton Mac McKinney of Midland; children, Monte and Linda West of Snyder; Paul and Tammy West of Midland; Jolane and Carl Chapman of Bloomfield, NM; Marty and Angela West of Garland; and Londa and John Kletchka of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren, Diana Carlile of Bristow, VA; Jason and Jami West of Snyder; Eric and April West of Midland; Nathan and Chelsea Morrow of Ft. Worth; Hope and Easton Harrold of Midland; Joshua and Jennifer Morrow of Amarillo; Ashley West of New York City; Erica and Blake Barton of Amarillo; Jeremy and Cara Lee West of Abilene; Paige and Michael Harris of Midland; Matthias and Rosie West of Waco; and Lucas West of Abilene; 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way and 1 great-great grandchild on the way; many other nieces, nephews, relatives, loves ones, and friends. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd West; her parents, and 3 brothers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Midland Christian Schools, 2001 Culver Drive, Midland, Texas 79705.
