Walter R. Gleason, 81, of Big Spring, died Thursday, July 30, 2015 in a local nursing home. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park.Walter was born August 19, 1933 in Alton, Illinois to Walter and Louanne Hamm Gleason. He married Jean McCaig April 26, 1952 in Widnes Lancashire, England.Walter served in the United States Air Force retiring after 26 years as a Master Sergeant. He also held the position of Medical Administrator at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, retiring after 20 years of service. He enjoyed building unique bird houses along with gardening, hunting and fishing. He entered his pickles at the Howard County Fair where he received many awards.Walter is survived by his wife, Jean Gleason of Big Spring; three daughters, Joanne Sayles and husband, Ron of Big Spring, Susan Williams and husband, George of Big Spring and Sandra Crockett and husband, Donald of Midland; seven grandchildren, Shane Sayles and wife, Jenny, Tiffany Fernandez, Ryan Sayles and wife, Jennifer, George W. Williams II and wife, Jamie, Nicole Jones and husband, Nell, Lee Walter Marshall and wife, Emily and Norma Jean Crockett; eleven great grandchildren and nieces, Mary Louise Robbins, Sharon Ray Robbins and Gloria Jean Mackelden.He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.The family suggests that memorials be made to the Salvation Army, 811 W. 5th Street, Big Spring, Texas 79720 or the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
