W.H. “Speck” Chambers, age 90, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016 in Midland, Texas. Speck is survived by his wife, Dorothy and his three children; daughter Sharon K. Hindman (James) of Midland, daughter Diana L. Sparks (Jimmy) of Edmond, Oklahoma, and son, Thomas K. Chambers (Geneva) of Victoria, Texas, 6 grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, two sisters, one brother and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and six brothers. Speck was born in Post, Texas on October 30, 1925 and was raised and attended school in Midland. Speck served in the US Army during WWII as an infantryman in the European Theatre of Operations. After the war, Speck met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Kurtz of Winters, Texas. Speck and Dorothy were married for 67 years and were long-time active members of Midland Lutheran Church. In 1951, Speck began a 33 year career with Texaco, working as a rodman, chainman and surveyor. Speck was involved in the staking of thousands of Texaco wells all over Texas and New Mexico. Speck retired in 1984 and enjoyed the many years thereafter in Midland and Utopia, Texas. A funeral service is scheduled at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland at 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 5, 2016.
