Vonnie Lee Hopper, 91, lifetime resident of Big Spring, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023.  Graveside services will held at 2:00 pm, Monday, August 21, 2023 at Trinity Memorial Park with Ron Davis, officiating.

Vonnie was born April 28, 1932 in Gouldbusk, Texas to parents James Wyley Gunn and Avalea Gunn.  She graduated from Big Spring High School and married Billie G. Hopper December 4, 1948 in Roswell, New Mexico. They made their home in Big Spring.  Vonnie was a private child care provider for many many years.

In addition to her parents, Vonnie was preceded in death by her husband Billie; one son Jimmy Hopper, one daughter Debbie Elliott, one brother, Ronald Gunn and one sister, Janice.

She is survived by one sister Joyce Wash of Big Spring; multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a nephew.

My Aunt Vonnie began babysitting when I was a child. I may have been the first that she kept. It was one of the best times in my life to spend the day playing with my cousin, Debbie, as we snuck into her bubba's room to listen to records. Vonnie was gentle, but kept us in line. Remembering delicious meals and snacks as a really little kid. It may have been "child care", but for me and Debbie, it was family and a wonderful life. I'm certain Vonnie is met with open arms from her life long partner and husband, Uncle Bill, my cousin, Jimmy, and my cousin, Debbie. Y'all save me a place, don't forget I am family too!
