Vivian Cornelia “Connie” Tate, born Vivian Cornelia Drake on August 23, 1926, in Red River County, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, in Midland, Texas, at the age of 99.
Connie lived a long and full life grounded in faith, family, and service. She began each day in quiet devotion, seeking guidance from her Savior and finding purpose in caring for others. Her faith guided every aspect of her life and was evident in her decades of involvement with the Golf Course Road Church of Christ, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, librarian, and friend to many.
Connie volunteered for many years at Manor Park Retirement Center and spent more than 25 years as a Pink Lady at Midland Memorial Hospital. Through her kindness and faithful care, she brought comfort and joy to many.
Her career at Midland National Bank reflected the same integrity and commitment that defined her life. In her fifties, she learned to swim and became an avid swimmer, continuing the practice into her early nineties. She also loved walking outdoors and maintained that habit throughout her life.
She shared 68 loving years of marriage with her husband, Gary Tate, before his passing. Together they built a family rooted in love, service, and resilience. She had a close relationship with her beloved brother, Buck Drake, and his wife, Spot. The three were often found in the kitchen, turning out big family meals for the ever-growing clan of which Connie was the strong and steady matriarch.
She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Jerry Tate and his wife, Sarita, Steve Tate and Jenny Loshbaugh; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Spot Drake.
Visitation will be held at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home on Sunday, November 16, 2025 from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will follow on Monday, November 17, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland, with a private family burial at Trinity Cemetery in Big Spring, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Mexico Children’s Home.
May her memory be a lasting example of faith, grace, and quiet strength.
