Virginia Sweeney of Big Spring, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in a local nursing home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 14, 2005 at Trinity Memorial Park with Mike Couch, officiating.The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.She was born on October 15, 1911, in Durant, Oklahoma and married Charles Sweeney on July 11, 1941 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1994.Virginia was born and raised in Durant, Oklahoma and received her Bachelor Degree from Southeastern State College in Durant. She taught school for a number of years before marrying and then was a mother and homemaker. She and her late husband came to Big Spring in 1954.She was a member of First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years and loved teaching children. She loved art and studied under Virginia Whitten. She was a storyteller at the Howard County Library for many years.Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Tom Conway of Troy, Illinois; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Claressa Sweeney of San Leandro, California and Marc and Wincie Sweeney of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Perry Pearce of Boca Raton, Florida; seven grandchildren; Trisha Yarbar and husband Dwain of Forsan, James "Bo" Leffler of Houston, Shelia Quijibix of San Leandro, California, Lauren and Thomas Conway of Troy,Illinois, Olivia and Julia Sweeney of Dallas; and eight great grandchildren, Porsha and Keisha Yarbar of Forsan, Adrianne Moreno of Big Spring, Jaer,Kevin,Cindel, Cristal, and Nicholas Quijibix all of San Leandro, California.She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, D'Ann Leffler on April 11, 1973; one sister; one brother and one granddaughter, Jamie Leffler on July 18, 1991.
