Virginia Naomi Sharp Harrison was born on August 16, 1928 in Hale Center, TX to Gladys Shahan Sharp and Robert Thomas Sharp; the first of their eight children. She grew up in the panhandle of Texas and eastern New Mexico finishing high school in Clovis and Portales, NM. She attended ENMU and El Paso Community College where she received her Associates Degree in drafting. She used that degree working for AO Smith in El Paso, Tx.She married Hulan Arnold Harrison on April 18, 1953, and together they have four children: Kathy Smith and husband Gary; Patti Higgins; Leland Harrison and wife Laurie; and Jay Harrison. They have three grandchildren: Rebecca Higgins Arons, James Caleb Higgins, and Elizabeth Harrison.She was a faithful member and beloved Sunday School teacher at First Baptist, Jal, NM; Northgate Baptist, El Paso, TX; and Alamo Heights Baptist in Midland. She was a long-time volunteer with Midland Need to Read.Virginia passed from this life early on December 11, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, four of her brothers: Robert, Elbert, William, and Don; and her son-in-law James Higgins. She is survived by her husband, her children, her grandchildren, two sisters, and many nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in her name to Midland Need to Read, 1709 W. Wall, Midland, TX 79701; Home Hospice, 901 W. Missouri, Midland, TX 79701; Meals on Wheels, 3301 Sinclair Ave., Midland, TX 79707; or Alamo Heights Baptist Church, 1305 N. Midland Dr., Midland, TX 79703.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 14, 2012, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Alamo Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Redwine, officiating. Burial will be at Terrace Cemetery in Post, TX, on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 3:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
