Vern Fayne Martin April 10, 1931-September 27, 2013 Vern departed this world to the open arms of his Savior on Friday, September 27, 2013. Vern was born April 10, 1931 to Levi and LaDella Martin of Forest Academy, Texas. In 1948, he graduated from Sulphur Springs High School and attended East Texas State University on a music scholarship. He also attended the University of Texas in Austin and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctor degree. After law school, Vern served our country in the Navy during the Korean War. Vern and his wife Zella and their children moved to Midland in 1965. He practiced law until the age of 79 in Midland, Texas and served as the District Attorney of Midland from 1976-1984. Vern practiced Criminal and Family law and was a champion for those who had little hope and little money. He was a great teacher and loved the study of Christianity, world religion and spirituality. He also loved jazz! Vern is preceded in death by his parents, LaDella Garrett Martin and Oliver Levi Martin and a brother Levi Eugene Martin. He is survived by his son Vern Morris Martin and his wife, Donna Ward Martin and their daughter Sabrina Jewell Martin, and his son Edmond “Dude” Martin. Granddaughters Leslie Noble and her husband Mark and Kelly Long and her husband Jody; and his great grandchildren Scott, Jenna, Adam and Abigail. Memorial services will be held Friday, October 4th at 3 p.m. at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel, 3800 N. Big Spring St. Midland, Texas 79710. ,
