Vera R. Sandlin, 99, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, January 31, 2004, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at Midway Baptist Church in Big Spring, with Rev. Jim Binix, pastor officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park Big Spring.Mrs. Sandlin was born on April 11, 1904, in Big Spring and married Robert Lee Pinkston on January 15, 1924, and then later married H. O. Sandlin on December 28 , 1942.She was the daughter of Walter and Dora Alice Robinson a pioneer Howard County family. She was the oldest of nine children in her family. Mrs. Sandlin was a lifelong resident of Howard County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Vera served as kitchen supervisor for over 35 years, and also served as pianist for many years. Vera loved being around her family, and especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She loved to cook.Survivors include two daughters, Christine Foster of Big Spring and Almarine Schweska of Anchorage, Alaska; one sister, Merle Higginbotham of Monahans; four grandsons, Dan Jamierson of Odessa, Dustin Jamierson of Kansas City, Missouri, Jerry Groves of Big Spring, Gary Groves of Columbus, Georgia; one granddaughter, Danette Hanson of Dutch Harbor, Alaska; seven great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, and five step great great grandchildren.
