Van Richard Temple, 58, of Midland, TX, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at his residence. Visitation was from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2008, at St. Luke's UMC of Midland with Dr. Jarrell Sharp officiating, and Rev. Kathryn Boren assisting.Van was born April 7, 1950 in Oklahoma City, OK to Marie and Fred Temple. He married Sharon Faye Gray on June 26, 1976 in Odessa at St. Luke's UMC. They moved to Midland in 1978.Van attended North West Classen High School in Oklahoma City and The University of Oklahoma. He worked as a petroleum engineer for ExL Petroleum. Van was a member of the United Methodist Church, Agape Sunday School Class at St. Luke's UMC of Midland, Hi Sky Emmaus Community and The Society of Petroleum Engineers. Van's life long passion was to spread God's Word. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in-memory of Van R. Temple to: AIMS (Accelerating International Mission Strategies) PO Box 64534, Virginia Beach, VA 23467.Van was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include wife, Sharon Faye Temple of Midland; daughter and son-in-law, Kristina Faye (Temple) and Joshua Daryl Laird of Lubbock; daughter, Veann Marie Temple of Orlando, FL; Daughter, Erin Nicole Temple of Lubbock; mother and father-in-law, Wanda F. and Daniel H Gray, Sr. of Odessa; and other extended family.
