V. R. "Vennie" Hughes, 97, of Knott, died on Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 8, 2004 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel Big Spring with , Larry Marshall, minister of the Knott Church of Christ and Doyle Maynard, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.Mr. Hughes was born to P.O. and Maggie Hughes on November 19, 1906, in Big Spring.Vennie was a member of the Wild Bunch Motorcycle Club, being the oldest member for several years.He was a member of Church of Christ.Survivors include one niece, Joan Blagrave and husband, Derwood; one brother-in-law, Cecial Allred; two grand nephews, Stan Blagrave and wife Carla and Steve Blagrave and wife Tracie; three great neices, Shelli Blagrave, Krista Blagrave and Brittni Blagrave; two great nephews, Sean Blagrave and Trevor Blagrave all from Ackerly.He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Ruby Allred.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
