Tora Baldwin Wilbanks, 59, passed away on October 13, 2024, in Midland, Texas. Born on January 4, 1965, Tora grew up on the Navajo reservation, deeply ingrained with the culture and traditions that shaped her love for nature and all living things.
Tora dedicated herself to a life of service and community involvement. For 25 years, she delivered meals through Meals on Wheels and served on the board of Keep Midland Beautiful. Her commitment to the community extended to the Midland Humane Coalition, where she donated both time and resources. Tora also excelled as a homemaker and realtor at The Agency, Kerri Payne James Real Estate Team, where she was known for her dedication and warmth.
She attended Navajo Academy in Farmington, New Mexico, followed by Arizona State University. Throughout her life, Tora was a devoted member of the Holy Trinity Church, where she found spiritual solace and community.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Tora’s hobbies included cooking, horseback riding, gardening, and tennis. Her home was a welcoming space, filled with the aromas of her fabulous cooking and surrounded by beautiful gardens that reflected her green thumb and love for gardening.
Tora was a beloved figure not just to her family but also to her friends and community. She is survived by her children, Tovah Olmo Yaklin and husband John, Travis Allen Wilbanks, and Taylor Jewell Wilbanks; her parents, Evelyn and Thomas Baldwin; and her cherished Corgis, Sparky and Billie. She was preceded in death by her sister Tanya Baldwin and nephew Brian.
Tora’s life will be celebrated on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity located at 1412 West Illinois Avenue, Midland, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tora’s memory can be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, honoring her commitment to support those in need. Tora’s legacy of love, compassion, and community service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
