Tim Lee Nesbitt
February 14, 1943 – November 14, 2023
Tim was born on Valentine’s Day of 1943, to Bertie and Paul Nesbitt in Clovis, New Mexico. He passed away November 14, 2023, in Midland, Tx, at the age of 80, after a 2 year battle with cancer. Tim was the 10th of the 11 Nesbitt children…and understood to be the favorite. His sharp mind and athletic ability provided him with a golf scholarship to Eastern New Mexico State University, where he earned a degree in business/finance.
He married his high school sweetheart, Plyna, on June 17, 1962 and they were happily married for 56 years. Tim won the Midland City Championship Golf Tournament ‘66, ‘67, ‘68 and 1970, and the 3 yr streak still stands. Tim began his banking career at The First National Bank of Midland in 1965, later becoming the President of The First National Bank of Monahans. His impeccable integrity, work ethic and kindness made him a great banker and boss. On retirement, they moved back to Midland to be near their 8 grandchildren. Granddad and Penny’s house was the best…card games and candy aplenty!
Tim trusted Christ as his Savior at the age of 16. Though quiet in his faith, the fruit of the Holy Spirit was indeed evident in his life. He loved well, was patient, peaceful, kind, good and gentle…and oh, the joy he brought to so many. His quick wit made an impression everywhere he went! Job 8:21 “He will fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.”
His sweet Plyna went to be with Jesus in 2018. Tim is also preceded in death by his parents, 5 of his brothers and 4 sisters.
Tim is survived by daughter Mindy Burton and her husband, Patrick, of Spring, Tx; daughter Jill Sparks and her husband, Kevin, of Midland, Tx; grandchildren: Megan Hollis and husband, Clayton; Madison Hunt; Grey Sparks and wife, Alex; Sumner Short and husband, Hayden; Mackelle Cannon and husband Blake; Garrett Sparks; Grant Sparks and wife, Ashleigh; and Myles Hunt; great-grand children: John, Dani, Lee and Jane Hollis, Dottie Sparks, and baby Short on the way; brother, Tom Nesbitt, and wife Marie of Ames, Iowa; and so many treasured family members and dear friends.
Tim loved volunteering at the Senior Life Texas Size Garage Sale, playing Gin, and watching golf or Gunsmoke with his dog. He was a great Dad…and Granddad. We are grateful for the loving example he gave caring for his sweet wife and his perfectly timed humor that put everyone at ease. What a wonderful friend he was to so many!
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 5pm-7pm and a Celebration of Tim’s life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 2pm, both at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
