Thornton A. Scott, 74, of Stanton, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2002 in a Midland hospital following a brief illness. Graveside funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater with Dr. Bill Welsh, minister of Belvue Church of Christ, officiating. He was born on December 14, 1927 in Sweetwater, Texas and married Betty J. Taylor on November 2, 1955 in Merkel, Texas. Mr. Scott had served his country in the United States Army. He retired from the Texas Highway Department and South Texas Construction. He was a member of Belvue Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Scott of Stanton; two sons, Mike Scott of Stanton and Tony Scott of Hobbs, New Mexico; two grand daughters, Mallory and Alyssa Scott of Stanton; two brothers, Bill Scott of Sweetwater and Wendel Scott of Verhalen; and one sister, Glen Swann of Gail. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lommie Scott; three brothers, Prentice, Maurice and Robert Scott; and one sister, Frankie Hale. The family suggests memorials to: The Belvue Church of Christ, % George Costlow, P.O. Box 957, Stanton, Texas, 79782 or The American Cancer Society, 2304 W. Wadley, Midland, Texas 79705.
