Thomas Vernon Swafford 91, of Midland, formerly of Big Spring, died Saturday, February 8, 2014 in a Midland nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.Vernon was born April 10, 1922 in Marshall, Texas. He was a driller in the 1940's and drove a transport truck for the next 40 years. He also owned a small ranch in Paradise, Texas.He is survived by three sons, Raymond Swafford and wife, Kathy, of Midland, Billy Kenneth Swafford and Larry Swafford and wife, Jennan, all of Big Spring; two brothers, Glen Swafford and wife, Jennie, of Longview, and Ernest Swafford and wife, Alta, of San Angelo; one sister, Mary Ruth Allen, of Marietta, GA; ten grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Edna (Baker) Swafford, one brother, Clifford Swafford; two sisters, Elaine Hearne and Justine Oney; and one grand daughter, Cheynne Rainer.The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of the donor's choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
