(Tom) Thomas Hayes Matney, 70, of Midland, Texas passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017. A visitation will be held at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home &Crematory on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. Services will be 2:00pm Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Cotton Flat Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Holman officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens.Tom was born on October 23, 1947 in Hobbs, NM to Orel and Frances Matney. Tom graduated from Hobbs High School in 1965. Tom attended New Mexico Junior College. He later moved to Midland, Texas in 1970 where he met and married the love of his life, Sharon Ann Watson in 1972. Tom gained his first daughter Toye through marriage in 1972. Tom and Sharon had their second daughter Jennifer Ann Matney on September 28, 1977.Tom had many hobbies and loved to have fun. He was an avid weather watcher, golfer, and loved classic movies and football. Tom cherished his time with family. Tom loved family and holiday traditions and events. Family was the most important thing to Tom. Tom’s favorite holiday was July 4th, he always provided fireworks entertainment for his family and friends. Tom was witey and loved to joke around; those that knew him appreciated his love of fun. Tom could find humor in most any situation.Tom was survived by wife, Sharon Ann Matney; daughter Toye Lavette Crabtree, Christopher Stephen Crabtree, Madison Rylee Crabtree, and Christopher Brian Hayes Crabtree; daughter, Jennifer Ann Wells, James Milton Wells, IV, and granddaughter, Sara Kate Owens; son, Thomas Hayes Matney; sister, Sharon Thompson and Gail Small.Tom was preceded by Orel and Frances Matney and sister, Betty McVey.The family would like to express their gratitude towards Home Hospice, Dr. Watkins and staff, and all the many friends and Cotton Flat Church family.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland, Texas.
