Terry Golden, of Odessa, Texas, passed from this life on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the age of 68.
Terry was born September 27, 1952 in Colorado City, Texas to Doris and Howard Golden. He was the second of five children. The family moved to Odessa in 1954 where Terry attended Austin Elementary, Crockett Junior High, and Odessa High School, graduating in 1971.
As many teenagers of this time, Terry loved to hang out with friends, playing pool, and circling the local drive-in restaurants. It was at one of the drive ins that he met his wife, Paula Israel. They were married on May 24, 1971 in Odessa. They were very young, him just graduating, but determined to start their lives together. Many said they were too young and it would not last but they were happily married for 49 years and 9 months.
Terry had many friends and many interests. He loved a good time and was a “master tinkerer”. He loved his Harley and going on trips with friends. He was always available to help fix anything anyone needed and enjoyed helping others. He was very much a “man’s man” and treated everyone with complete respect.
Terry was a hard worker in provided well for his family. He had various jobs until 1973 when he was hired at Lesgo Rental Tools. He started at the bottom as a shop hand and worked through the ranks to become the manager. He was employed there until an oil bust forced Lesgo into bankruptcy closure in 1989. He immediately took a position at Oil Field Rentals which later was bought by Weatherford International. Again, he worked his way up to management and loved his job and coworkers. He retired from Weatherford on January 31, 2020 with lots of plans to travel and enjoy life with his beloved wife and dog Callye, until COVID-19! His short retirement was spent quarantined, watching TV, doing grocery runs, and helping with the care of his mother.
Terry’s four grandsons had his heart from the day he learned of their conception. He loved watching them play sports, hunting and fishing with them, or simply spending time with them. They brought him nothing but joy, as a grandchild can.
January 14th, 2021, while restoring an antique camp stove, Terry was critically burned when the stove exploded. He was flown to University Medical Center’s burn unit in Lubbock where he fought for his life until his death.
Terry is preceded in death by his son, Michael Golden, father, Howard Golden, brother, Richard Golden, father-in-law, James Israel, mother-in-law, Ann Israel, and sister in law, Shirley Carrigan.
