Tanya C. Godfrey, a beloved long-time resident of Midland, Texas, passed away on May 9th, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on March 29th, 1932, in Dallas, Texas, to Joseph E. Craddock and Clara Annette Craddock, Tanya grew up in the family pickling business, Craddock Foods. She found her true home when she married her soulmate, Charles B. Godfrey, on October 16th, 1952. In 1957, they moved to Midland, Texas, where they built a beautiful life and family over the next 69 years.
Tanya was a dedicated volunteer, always eager to lend a helping hand. She was actively involved with her church, First Presbyterian, where she answered phones and assisted anyone in need. Her passion for giving back was evident in her work with Angel Food, where she helped cook and serve meals.
Tanya also spent many years volunteering at the hospital, bringing magazines and smiles to cancer patients. She had a special place in her heart for children, working with those with Cerebral Palsy and at the Midland Children’s Rehabilitation Center.
When she was not volunteering, Tanya was immersed in her love for art. She was a talented potter, though she often downplayed her skills. Her pottery pieces were showcased at local events like Midland’s Celebration of the Arts. Tanya also crafted beautiful jewelry, often featuring her signature, ‘Angel piece’
Tanya is survived by her son, Michael Godfrey; her son-in-law, Michael Thomas, and his wife, Kimberly Thomas; her granddaughters, Sarah Pfeffer and Erin Duffus; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Lennox Duffus, and Dylan and Amelia Pfeffer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Annette Craddock; her sister, Betty; her daughter, Annette Thomas; and her husband, Charles B. Godfrey.
Tanya’s warmth and kindness touched everyone she met, and her presence will be deeply missed. She was the steady hand and the beautiful foundation of her family. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Midland Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, a cause close to Tanya’s heart.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
