Tammy was born on April 22, 1958 to Charlie Vera Washington and James Ray Mason in Midland, Texas. At the time of her departure, she was a member of True-Lite Christian Fellowship Church in Midland, TX. She attended Midland Lee High School, Class of 1977, and was a longtime employee of Midland Independent School District for 28 years. After retiring, her love for children also found its way to the Midland YMCA where she transported children from school to the “Y”. They were all her babies.
Before retiring from MISD, Tammy enjoyed working part-time at the Boys & Girls Club. It was during this time that she developed a love for coaching basketball. Her love for basketball turned into something bigger and she used coaching to not only win games, but to teach fundamental life skills. In 1995, after rededicating her life to Christ, it became her mission to instill in young boys and girls God-like character, life skills, self-respect and good manners. Her impact was felt far beyond the children as she began to influence the entire family and every adult associated with her teams, including the coaches. During her lifetime, she demonstrated love, and never missed a chance to talk about the love of God. We have all been truly blessed to have her touch our lives and hearts.
She is survived by daughters Nicole Mason and Juanice Roberts; sons Joshua Ross (Crystal), Xavier Whiteside; grandchildren; A’kimbria Johnson, Marquez Roberts, Keziah Ross, Josh Ross Jr., Lance Ross, and Daniel Ross; sister, Pat Sledge; and brother, Derrick Roberts (Cathy). She was also blessed with bonus children, Tyrone and LaTrisha Satterwhite and Roderick and Shamiqua Shields; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends will also miss her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Vera Blake, James Ray Mason, and Clyde Blake.
