Susan P. Young, 82, of Big Spring passed away Tuesday morning, August 15, 2006. Memorial services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 18, 2006. A visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.Susan was born in Dallas, Texas on August 15, 1924 to Gordon and Caribel Watkins. She was the first woman to take mechanical drawing at her high school amid opposition. She attended college at SMU, Arlington State and Howard College. Her career didn't take the path she had intended, toward engineeering; rather, from 1956 to 1964 it focused on assistant management and accounting for both oil and banking industries. During this time she acquired her certification as a professional secretary and rose to council chairman for the International Toastmaster's Club. From 1969 until recently, she had a long successful accounting career including membership in the National Accountants Association and culminating as controller and CFO for two Pennsylvania companies. During this time she served as a Borough Council Member and also as Mayor in Royalton, Pennsylvania. Her most recent position was as treasurer for the St. Paul Lutheran Church.Survivors include her daughter, Tonida Smith and two grandsons, Matthew and Nicholas Larghi, all of Mahwah, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Watkins and sister, Jane McAnelly.Susan was a very special person who made many friends over the years and touched their lives in a positive way often giving precedence to their needs over her own.
