Sue ThagardMargaret Sue Goddard Thagard was born on August 25, 1925 in a barn in O'Donnell, Texas to Reba Jordan Goddard and Ed Goddard. She graduated from O'Donnell High School and from West Texas State University. She married Thomas Flynn Thagard on August 20, 1945 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sue was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her two sisters and a brother.Sue's great joy and deep love was to her family. Sue and Tom moved to Midland in 1953 where Tom worked for Ashland Oil and Sue was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone. Tom became an independent geologist in 1956 and Sue left the phone company to raise her children. Her family was the most important aspect of her life and her great devotion and loyal care for them was evident to all. The other very important part of Sue's life was the University of Oklahoma Sooners. Sue hung on every play, fretted over ever pass and rejoiced with every victory. Sue's love of the Big Red led to annual wagers (never paid) and frequent lively discussions in the Thagard household on the week preceding and following the Oklahoma/University of Texas game. Mostly though, Sue was everything a child could ask for in a parent. She was there to wipe every nose, to bandage every cut and to sooth every fear. Her family is privileged to have been in her life and will forever be grateful for her love. No one could ever want more than Sue gave. Sue grieved greatly when Tom passed away in 1986. Her family takes great comfort in their heavenly reunion.Sue is survived by her daughter Karri, her son Greg and wife Bobbi. Also surviving Sue are her granddaughters, Claire, Meredith and Maddy and her grandson, Thomas. Other members of the family include nieces, Jackie Durham and Andra Sanders, Dr. Karen Carr and her daughters Erin and Jordan, Sue's friend, Maria, her daughter, Kathy and her westie, Shine.Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Midland with Mary Collier, officiating.
