Sue Garrett Neff, 78, of Big Spring died Tuesday, March 27, 2018 in a local hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, March 30, 2018 at the funeral home.She was born April 25, 1939 to Ernest Garrett and Eleanor Saunders Garrett of Coahoma. She graduated from Coahoma High School with the class of 1957. From there she attended Hardin Simmons University and obtained a B.A. degree in Education. While at Hardin Simmons she was a member of the White Horse Riders. This group rode in parades and various events all across Texas representing Hardin Simmons. After graduation her teaching career began at Forsan. Later she taught the BPA program at Coahoma for several years until her retirement. Her students excelled in BPA winning numerous district and state titles. She took several students all the way to the national competition each year. Some of those students won at the national level. The students that did well at those competitions received various amounts of scholarship money, some receiving several thousands of dollars to further their education.She married Joe K. Neff, DVM on September 24, 1961. They had two sons, Bryan Garrett Neff and Joe David Neff. She unselfishly took time off from her teaching career to raise her family and help Joe with his veterinary business. She enjoyed horse racing, watching old westerns, visiting with friends and former students and Dairy Queen blizzards. She also kept busy feeding the wild turkeys, quail and dove in the backyard.Sue is survived by son Dr. Bryan Neff and his wife, Laurie, of Bandera, Tx and their three sons Cale Neff and his wife Samantha of College Station, Tx, and Ty Neff and Zane Neff of Bandera, Tx; granddaughters Kalea and Savannah Neff both of Fort Worth, Tx and Angelina Neff of Odessa, Tx; grandson Matthew Neff of Odessa, Tx and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joe Neff, DVM; son Joe David Neff of Big Spring, Texas; parents, Mr. & Mrs. C. Ernest Garrett of Coahoma and a brother Bob S. Garrett of Midland.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory.
