Sue Aileen Roberts, 77, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 4, 2018. Sue, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in Midland, Texas at Midland Memorial Hospital. Sue was born November 1940 in Jacksonville, Texas, to Cecil R. and Minnie L. Waggoner and raised in Overton, Texas. Her family moved to Andrews, Texas in 1956 where she graduated from Andrews High School. She attended Texas Tech University and worked for Gulf Oil Company. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Rita. Sue married her loving husband, Ross D. Roberts, in Andrews, Texas in 1960 and together they raised three children. The family moved to Midland in 1968 and in addition to caring for her family, Sue began serving her community through volunteer organizations.Sue is survived by her devoted husband, Ross D. Roberts of Midland. She is also survived by her daughter, Teresa Newman, her husband, Mike, of Midland; her daughter, Sherry Mahaffey and her husband, Steve of Carthage, Texas; her son, Ross Roberts, Jr. and his wife, Susie of Anacortes, Washington. She is survived by her grandchildren Emily Newman Dodd and husband, Jordan, Travis Newman, Christopher Roberts, Lauren Roberts Lowe and husband, Gregg, Clay Mahaffey, Jackson Mahaffey and Annie Mahaffey. She will also be missed by her special friends, Carol and Gary Hall.Sue and Ross shared a wonderful life together. They were members of First United Methodist Church of Midland and the Partners Sunday School Class for 49 years. Sue was a long time Girl Scout troop leader, past president of the Permian Basin Girl Scout Council and a Life Member of the Girl Scouts of America. She was active in the PTA and president of the James Bowie Elementary PTA. She was a volunteer with the Midland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for many years where she served as president and was awarded a Life Membership. She was a sustaining member of the Midland Junior League. In addition to being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, friend and volunteer, she was an avid skier, bird watcher, square dancer and gardener. Sue’s love of horses was received from her mother, Minnie, and they went on many trail rides together. Sue shared her love of horses with her granddaughter, Emily, and they trained and showed Arabian horses for many years. She was a member of the Arabian Horse Association and the Arabian Horse Club of West Texas.Sue will be buried in Andrews, Texas, in a private family ceremony. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3011 W. Kansas Ave, Midland on September 6, 2018, at 1:00 p.m.Sue’s family would like to thank The Vogel Center at Manor Park, Hospice of Midland and the staff at Midland Memorial Hospital for providing compassionate care to Sue and her family.
