Steven Marcus Cullen, 72, of Midland, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Steve was born on March 19, 1954, in San Francisco to Robert and Josie Cullen. He spent most of the rest of his life in Midland, Texas, graduating from Lee High School in 1972. He met his wife of 49 years at the University of Texas at Austin where he already knew he wanted to be a landman, which he successfully accomplished. Besides loving his work, he loved to make people happy hosting many parties in the backyard for friends, family, his Sunday School class, his ESL students, and even the entire staff of Lee Freshman High School. As he took walks around the neighborhood, his life was enriched by visiting with others. While he loved interacting with everyone, his greatest love was his family, which he showed in so many ways. Steve was a faithful servant of the Lord, loving God, his church, and serving in the Praise Band at First Baptist for many years playing the guitar.
Steve is survived by his mother, Josephine Cullen, his sisters Teri Guttery (Hal) and Joy Irving (Ray), his wife, Bayta, his children, Carson Cullen (Lauren) and Claire Cullen (Sebastian Guedelhoefer) and grandchildren, Colter Cullen, Lukas Guedelhoefer, Chance Cullen, Cecile Cullen, and Martin Guedelhoefer, and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Steve is preceded in death by his father, Robert Cullen.
As Steve struggled with cancer his last year of life, he took great comfort and inspiration from this verse: “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”—James 1:12
