Steven Douglas (Steve) Howenstine, 72, of Midland, Texas, passed away August 28, 2026.

Steve was born on February 27, 1954, to Kenneth and Anna (Mays) Howenstine. His early years were spent on numerous U.S. Air Force bases. Upon his dad’s retirement from the military, they settled in Carrizo Springs, Texas. Steve graduated from Carrizo Springs High School in 1972. He obtained his BA in Aviation Management from UT Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas in 1979. Steve spent much of his career in the banking industry in Odessa, Midland, and San Antonio. He moved to Midland in 2008 to be near and spend time with family and friends.

Steve was predeceased by his parents, his only child Joe Douglas Howenstine, and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He is survived by his life partner Jeanie Gaubatz, her son Blake Gaubatz, and the mother of his son Gina Santos.

A memorial celebrating Steve’s life is planned for a later date.
