Stancel Bernard Gibbs was born September 23, 1965 to Golden Faye Gibbs and Samuel Gibbs of Midland, Texas. Stancel attended Lee High School and after graduation in 1984 spent one semester at Prairie View A&M.
Because of Stan’s mental and physical disabilities, he was unable to secure long-term employment. He was musically gifted. He took piano lessons from Ms. Dordis and attended many recitals at Pease Elementary. He went on to play the trombone at Goddard Jr. High and Lee High School. After returning from Prairie View A&M, he played the piano for many churches throughout the community.
Stancel had an infectious personality and was loved by everyone. Stancel never met a stranger.
Stancel is survived by his brother, Billy Gibbs and nephew, Artorius Gibbs.
Stancel is preceded in death by his mother, Golden Faye Gibbs; and father, Samuel Gibbs, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Rabb, Edward Miller, Antoine Milley, Earl Davis, Mark Tamez and Alvin Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Braxton and Larry Munson.
