Spencer Ernest Wolfe (Spencer E. Wolfe) BSEE , 88, of Big Spring, died Sunday, November 18, 2018 in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Pastor Mark Rae officiating. Interment will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.The family will receive friends beginning 9:30 AM prior to the service.Spencer attended school at Runnels in Big Spring from Kindergarten through to his graduation from high school in May, 1948. He graduated in 1954 from Colorado A & M (Colorado State University) in Fort Collins, Colorado.Spencer served in the Army in the transportation corps, training on Rotary and Fix Winged Aircraft, electrical and instrument equipment, performed maintenance on cargo-type helicopters at Fort Riley, Kansas (August 1954 to August, 1956). He worked as a Flight-Test Engineer for Martin Marietta in Baltimore, Maryland, supporting test pilots testing missile guidance systems for air breathing weapon systems (Aug. 1956 to July 1959). He then transferred to Denver as electrical systems test engineer for Titan weapon system and prepared detailed test plans for both captive and flight tests (1959 to 1965). He moved to Houston, Texas and worked for GE at NASA during the Apollo space program as a circuit design manager. Designs were directed toward the automated check out of the space craft prior to flight and altitude chamber testing equipment for moon launches (July 1965 to August 1974).Spencer returned to Big Spring in 1974 to work for FINA at the Refinery plant as an electrical engineer providing electrical and instrumentation designs (1974 to 1985). Following his 1985 retirement from FINA, worked designing monitors and controls for compressors, product storage, and metering skid at Mobil producing Texas and New Mexico’s gas plant in Midkiff, Texas (1986-1987). He designed automated well skids for FINA Oil and Chemical production in Midland, Texas, for Seminole and Post, Texas. He worked at the Water Flood Station for Emmons Lease in Odessa, Texas (1988). He was a contractor for jobs in Otter Lake Michigan, Finley, Washington; Ponca City, Oklahoma; Lake Charles Louisiana; and Billings, Montana. Spencer finished his career designing control and monitoring systems for Western Environmental Management in Carlsbad, New Mexico (1989 to 1995).While attending Colorado A & M in Fort Collins, Colorado, Spencer met, fell in love with, and married Janet Louise Floth, August 8, 1954. Janet was the love of his life. They were married for 64 years. Janet and Spencer have four sons, three daughters-in-law, four grandchildren and one great grandson: S. David Wolfe, North Myrtle Beach, NC, Steven Dean Wolfe (Deehona) of Midland, Texas, Kevin James Wolfe (Kay Lynn) of Colleyville, Texas, Grandchildren: Kenzie Wolfe, of Dallas and Parker Wolfe, in Waco, Karl John Wolfe (Cathy) of Kingsland, Texas; grandchildren: Chelsea (Andrew) Wood and Brittany (Jason) Hilgemeier; great-grandson: Aspen Hilgemeier; One niece and nephew: Lydia (John) Anderson of Las Cruces and Marlan (Carol Jean) Freeburg of Michigan.Spencer was led to the Lord by his Aunt Totsy at 8 years of age and was a devout Christian throughout his life. Church has always been a central part of his life, serving in many capacities, including as a Deacon in Colorado and instrumental in starting a Bible Church locally in Big Spring.Spencer had an incredible work ethic and loved to garden and grow things. He always had a project going and he could fix anything. Based in his committed Christian faith, he was active for years in politics. He served as County Chairman for the Howard County Republican Party (10+ years), served as a voting delegate at the Texas State Republican Party (20+ years), and was nominated and selected to become the Committee Man for the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC). The SREC is the 64 men and women who vote to make Texas Republican Party decisions. He was honored when Governor Perry (Texas Governor) presented him with a plaque honoring his selection to the SREC.He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Otto E. Wolfe and Esther James Wolfe; one sister, Lina Jane Wolfe (Dr. Robert) Freeburg; and one cousin, Kenneth Curry.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.
