A visitation will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel.
Shirley was born on October 9, 1932 in Runnels County to L.B. and Hazel Hambright. She attended Southland High School where she graduated as salutatorian. It was in Southland, when she was 15 years old, that she met Bobby J. Trimble. Bobby was working at a service station when Shirley and a friend rode up on horses. Shirley asked him for a soda, and he replied, “Get down and get it yourself. This isn’t a drive-in.” It was evidently love at first sight because he showed up at her house that evening to ask her out for a date. They were married a year later and celebrated their 75th anniversary in February of this year.
Shirley and Bobby made a life in Midland, Texas where they raised their daughters and served in their community. She worked at Wagner & Brown for over 30 years, starting as Cy Wagner & Jack Brown’s secretary, and working her way up as a valuable member of the land department. Shirley also supported Bobby as he founded Christmas in April, now Christmas in Action, which took them on many wonderful adventures as they worked to share the ministry throughout the United States.
She was a long-time member of Alamo Heights Baptist Church and taught Sunday School until her health declined in her later years. Most of her teaching time was spent with a young couple’s class which gave her great joy as she treated each couple as her own children. Every Sunday morning, she woke early to call and check on each member and encourage them to be in class.
Shirley never met a person she could not engage in conversation. Most of these conversations ended with Shirley praying for that person. She was a woman of style and never left her home without her jewelry, heels, red lipstick, and a dash of Design perfume. She loved traveling with Bobby. They made road trips to Alaska, to the east coast, west coast, and most of the states in between. She loved hosting parties, celebrating holidays in her home, and later attending her grandchildren’s events. She also loved to shop!
Shirley’s true passion was Jesus. She wanted everyone to know Him and His grace. She shared the love of Christ with her family, her friends, her Sunday School class, and strangers. She desired His love to shine brightly in her community and around the world. She was an encourager, she was generous, and she always wanted to be remembered by one word, “kind.”
Preceding her in death were her parents, L.B. and Hazel Hambright, her brother, Dee Elton Hambright, her sister-in-law, Helen Hambright, and her nephew, Dee Randall Hambright.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby J. Trimble; daughter Tracye and husband Mike Vaughan, daughter, Sherry and husband Steve Sigler; grandchildren Bobbie and husband Robert Grimes, Brady and wife Megan Vaughan, Ashley and husband Cory Teel, and Virginia Sigler; great-grandchildren Bailey Grimes, Coy and Walker Vaughan, Colby, Hunter and Destiny Teel. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.
