Shirley Ann (Campbell) Spaulding of Granbury, TX was born on January 31, 1937 to James Odell and Cloetta Campbell in Snyder, TX. She attended high school in Floyd, NM graduating in 1955. She met and married Clyde Spaulding in Ft. Worth, TX on July 5, 1957. They moved to Midland, TX where Shirley worked for Texas Electric Service Company. She then started working for Midland Independent School District as a key punch operator. Shirley became a school secretary at Crockett Elem., Fannin Elem., Burnet Elem., and then opened the new George H W Bush Elementary School. She retired from MISD in 1994.
During her high school years, Shirley became quite popular as a singer. She sang at many rodeos, festivals and opries. Shirley and her mother, Cloetta Campbell, baked decorated and sold birthday cakes, Quinceanera, wedding cakes and many other types of cakes.
During her retirement she volunteered with the Midland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary as a pink lady. Shirley was a longtime member of Crestview Baptist Church. She was very active in the church by volunteering for many different activities. Shirley was an avid collector of depression glass. She had an extensive collection of pink open-laced dishes. Shirley also enjoyed playing Bunco for years with her “Bunco Group.” Shirley’s pride and joy was her devoted and beloved border collie, Bonnie. She would tell everyone that she rescued her from a soldier helicopter pilot. When he was deployed to Afghanistan and couldn’t keep Bonnie, she happily took her in.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Cloetta Campbell; father, Odell Campbell, and her loving husband of 58 years, Clyde Spaulding.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sandi Gillette (Richard) of Granbury, TX and her son, Jerry Spaulding (Kenda) of Frisco, TX. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Cadi Gillette of Lakewood, CO and Cari Gillette of Mountain View, CA as well as her dog, Bonnie.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm, Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. A service will take place at 10:00 am, Friday, May 24, 2024 at Crestview Baptist Church. The burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.
