Shirlee Jo Wythe Locker, 72, of Midland, Texas, passed away on August 29, 2024. Shirlee was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Shirley and Joe Wythe on November 15, 1951. She graduated from Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City. She attended Oklahoma State University. While in high school, she met and eventually married Michael Stephen Locker and they had two daughters, Laura and Alex.
While she was home raising her daughters, she was active in the Junior League of Midland and was always the first to volunteer whenever needed. She was one of the original partners of the Canopy in Midland. Shirlee had a passion for antiques and would often take road trips with friends all over looking for treasures. For a short time, her hobby turned professional and was briefly involved in the antique business. She then learned the mortgage business with HNB Mortgage and spent many years as a lending agent. She loved to travel. Any chance she had, you could find her at the slot machines in Las Vegas. She looked forward to long lunches with her “lunch bunch” and you could hear them laughing from miles away. More often than not, these lunches lasted way into the dinner hour. She lived life to the fullest, always up for the next adventure or road trip. Being a grandmother was one of her greatest joys. To know Shirlee was to love her. She had a contagious smile and eyes that would light up any room. Her sense of humor never faded, even during trying times.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Johnson, and husband, Holt and their children, Locker, Sam and Elizabeth; her daughter, Alex and her children, Tucker and Jack Bryant, all of Midland, TX; her brother Joe Wythe of Houma, LA; her sister CreeAnn Henderson and husband, Chuck of Longview, WA; her sister Sue Locker and husband, Gus of Midland, as well as nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank devoted friend and caregiver, Ivanah Ramos, Hospice of Midland, Monica Lavenant and her wonderful staff for the amazing care they provided. As per her request, there will be no service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Midland, 911 W Texas, Midland, TX 79701.
