Sherman Allen Cox, 96 of Midland, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024. A visitation will be from 12 noon to 5pm on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory. Graveside Service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday October 19, 2024, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater, Texas.
Sherman was born on February 10, 1928, in DeKalb, Texas to Augustus & Mary Cox. He attended school through the 8th grade then withdrew to work on the family cotton farm. He served in the United States Navy, was a former Police Officer and pro wrestler in Lubbock, a Restaurateur, Owner of Cox’s Otto in Odessa, Owner of the original Texas Burger on Wadley in Midland, was a past president of the Permian Basin Chapter of the Texas Restaurant Association and, a former two term City Councilman in Odessa. First and foremost, Sherman loved his family, he also loved going to the casinos to play video poker, loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers, old western movies, and peanut M&M’s.
His favorite thing to say was “Call me if you need me and call me if you don’t.” He told his family members often “I am so blessed to have you.”
Sherman is survived by his children, Gary D. Cox & wife Jane of San Angelo, Cindy Purdy & husband Richard of Midland, and Shelly Cox of Midland. His brother Bobby D. Cox and wife Leona of Fort Worth, Granddaughters Pam Klausner & husband Troy of San Angelo, Eric Hasty husband of Robbi of San Angelo, Wendy Wright & husband Jason of San Angelo, Angie Gleason of Midland, 12 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sherman is preceded in death by wife Sandra Cox, parents Augustus and Mary Cox, three sisters Edith Sellars, Cora Ellis, Mary Kinney, and granddaughter Robbi Hasty.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards Hospice of Midland and Visiting Angels with special thanks to his longtime caregivers, Randi Williams and Francisca Martinez.

Honorary Pallbearers are Sebastien Cox, Hunter Hasty, Kurt Klausner, Cade Klausner, Collin Klausner, Titus Wright, Kyle Klausner, Jacob Martin, Jordan Martin, Danny Cox and Jerry Kinney.
