May 1, 1946 – July 19, 2026
Sheila Dawn Rickey, formerly of Midland, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, at the age of 80.
Sheila was born on May 1, 1946, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to George and Evelyn Modene. She was one of a set of twins and spent her early childhood in Grand Rapids before moving to Reed City, Michigan, at the age of twelve to live with her father, stepmother, and siblings.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Ralph Rickey; her son, Jordan Scott Cady; her half-brother, Gerald Modene; her sister, Suzanne; and her twin sister, Sharron.
She is lovingly remembered by her children:
- Les Cady and his wife, Brigette, of Missouri
- Beverly Joy Cady of Wilsonville, Oregon
She also held a special place in her heart for her daughter-in-law, Gloria Cady, whom she loved dearly.
She is also survived by her half-sister, Andrea Joyce; her half-brothers, Rolly Modene, Ricky Modene, and Ronnie Modene; and many nieces and nephews. She held a special place in her heart for her niece, Barbie Higley of Stanwood, Michigan, whom she loved as her own.
Sheila was a proud grandmother to Candice, Joshua, Kaila, Hailey, Kevin, Christian, and Mollie June (M.J.) and was blessed with six great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind three stepchildren and their families, all of whom she loved dearly.
Education was important to Sheila. She attended Howard Junior College in San Angelo, Texas, and later Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, where she pursued her interest in the paralegal field.
Throughout her life, Sheila found joy in the friendships she made through TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). She often expressed her gratitude by saying, “Thank you, Lord,” for the many wonderful friends she had. Her wish was not for others to mourn her passing, but to celebrate the friendships and memories they shared together.
Sheila had an extraordinary love for animals, especially her dogs. To Buster, DeeDee, Bubba, Baxter, Jasmine, Bubbles, and Boo-boo, she would have said,
“I love you and will be waiting to see you soon.”
In lieu of flowers, Sheila requested that memorial contributions be made to the Look Good Feel Good Shop at the Cancer Center in San Angelo, Texas, or to a local animal shelter in support of homeless dogs.
Sheila will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering faith, deep love for her family, compassion for animals, and the friendships she treasured throughout her life. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
