Shay Jordan Sykes, 18, of Midland passed away November 12, 2023. The family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 16, 2023 at First Christian Church in Midland.

Shay was born on May 16, 2005 in Midland, TX to Dr. Steven Sykes and Cindy Contreras. He graduated from Legacy High School in May 2023. Shay touched every life that he came across.

Shay is survived by his father Dr. Steven Sykes, his mother Cindy Contreras, his brothers Roan and Remy Tercero, his maternal grandparents Amando and Arcelia Contreras, his great grandparents Jimmie Contreras and Anastacio Gamboa, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family would like to express their gratitude toward the specialized classroom educators at Legacy High School and the staff at Christus Children’s Hospital in San Antonio, TX and the staff at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, TX.

Shay was a very good kid, before I got ready to graduate you know when everytime we would have fire drills at Legacy High school I would see coming around the corner. My condolences, sending prayers to the family

I was one of Shay's teachers at Legacy and had worked with him the last few yrs. I still cant wrap my head around his passing. Just last Friday he was laughing at a joke a student made about me that he thought was hilarious. I will truly miss him playin 'turn on' 'turn off' the lights everyday. He will always be in my heart. My condolences to his family.

The Campbell family would like to give our condolences to the Sykes family. We enjoyed watching Shay grow into the handsome young man he was. My condolences to Shay's family. My coworkers and I loved working with Shay in therapy years ago. I will always remember his sweet and smiling face. There were times I would see him at Dr. Sykes office and he always melted my heart, seeing his happy face. I am so sorry Dr. Sykes, prayers for all.
