Rev. Dr. Shane Alden Brue went to be with the Lord on November 10, 2007 at his home in Big Spring, Texas after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 40 years old. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Big Spring on Tuesday, November 13th at 2:00 PM with a reception following. Graveside services will be in Amarillo, Texas at Llano East Cemetery on Wednesday, November 14th at 2:00 PM.Shane was born on September 14, 1967 in La Puente, California. His family lived in Idaho before moving to Vega, Texas where Shane graduated from Vega High School in 1986. In high school he was active in sports, band, scouting and church activities.Shane graduated from McMurry University in 1990 with a degree in psychology. While at McMurry, Shane was active in HEI social club, chanters, campus ministry and was named outstanding male graduate. He served at Clyde United Methodist Church as a youth minister for 3 years.Shane was called to be a pastor. He graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky in 1993 with a Master of Divinity degree. He married Jill Smith on December 18, 1993 in Amarillo, Texas. They began their ministry in Plainview, Texas in 1994, serving Trinity United Methodist Church. Shane was called to serve Haskell United Methodist Church in 1997 as well as Rule United Methodist Church. In 2002, Shane was accepted to a doctoral fellowship program at Asbury Theological Seminary. Shane was one of twenty pastors selected for a year of intense study and preparation for church leadership and biblical preaching. This experience was a highlight for Shane as he endeavored to be the best pastor he could be for the Lord. After their year in Wilmore, Kentucky, Shane and Jill moved to Abilene, Texas in 2003 to serve St. James United Methodist Church. He received his doctorate of ministry degree from Asbury in 2005. Shane then moved to serve Big Spring First United Methodist Church in 2006.Shane had a contagious enthusiasm. He enjoyed running and ran in marathons and other racing events. He loved scouting and was an Eagle Scout. He served as a leader in the Boy Scouts. He loved working with children and youth and helped lead Christian camping programs for years. As a pastor, Shane loved his calling and enjoyed preaching and leading the church, especially leading others to Christ. Shane was a devoted father and active in his children's lives, setting up campouts in the backyard, playing games together, and teaching his children new skills. He was a loving husband and a good friend to many.Shane was preceded in death by his sister, Debby Tveidt.He is survived by his wife Jill, children Benjamin, Jacob, Ryan, Micah and Megan of the home; mother Maxine Brue of Tulsa, Oklahoma; twin brother Shawn and his wife, Krystal and their three children of Cache, Oklahoma; sister Mary Helppie and her husband, Mike of Boise, Idaho; brother Jimmy Larsh of Boise, Idaho; father-in-law and mother-in-law Jim and LuAnn Smith of Amarillo, Texas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Scott and Laura Smith and their three children of Amarillo, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Juli and Kevin Peak of Forest, Virginia. Jill, you have been on my heart so much lately that I decided to look you up. I was devasted to hear about your loss. I am so sorry, please know that you are in my prayers and I hope we get in touch soon. I pray for your beautiful children and all of your special family during this difficult time.

Shane's love for the Lord and zest for life was always contagious. We grieve with you over the loss of his work for the Kingdom and know that he dancing in Heaven and singing with the Angel Chorus this Christmas season. Jill, the AMOM girls send all our love and prayers - we are so very sorry. We know that Shane is safe in the arms of our Lord Jesus, and we know that He will hold you and the children in His arms here on earth until you're reunited in heaven one day. We rejoice that Shane has been healed, but we also know there are many heavy hearts at home. Praying for God's peace and strength to be with you, today and always.

My heart breaks for your loss. I have 4 young children of my own and I pray God's mighty hand to carry each of you. Jill, I always remember the amazing strength you and your family had when I knew you in Amarillo at St. Stephen and through One Way. Shane is a "spiritual Giant", just now his is with his Lord. Shane will always hold a very special place in our hearts. We were so blessed that he agreed to marry us. He made our special day wonderful. We enjoyed being apart of St. James in Abilene while he was the pastor. I loved the way he delivered his messages. He was a truly great man of God and we will miss him dearly. Shane was extremly friendly to me as a freshman at McMurry and made a nervous freshmen feel at home. I was always appreciative for that. Our prayers are with you and your family.

I served with Shane on the Board of Ordained Ministry and appreciated his wise, discerning comments that he would offer. It was always clear to me that his wisdom came from a deep well of prayerful contemplation. I regret not knowing him better - but am grateful that our paths in this lifetime crossed. May the peace of Christ comfort his wife and children.

Our family went on "hiatus" from another Methodist church for a short time 3 years ago and thought we would try St. James. Dr. Brue was very friendly and welcoming, but what kept us there were his sermons. He spoke so clearly from the heart.. You did not need to know the Bible or even believe to understand the goodness he wanted to bring out in people. He has left us much too soon. We are blessed to have known him.
