Scott Douglas Sommer, age 62, passed away on January 20th, 2026. A memorial in his honor will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026 at 11:00 am at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel. Scott was born on April 27, 1963, in Topeka, KS to Jim and Kay Sommer. From Kansas, the Sommer family would go on to live in Illinois, Virginia, and New York over 13 years, settling at last in Midland, TX when Scott was in Junior High School. He graduated from Midland High School, attended Midland College and then on to Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX.
Throughout his life, Scott was a committed and competent employee, father, friend, and son. He was trusted and counted on for whatever was asked, whatever the task. His work ethic was unlike any other and he prided himself on being able to tackle and successfully complete the most impossible jobs. As a business owner, from his seat of command and control, his leadership and business acumen was clearly seen in the successful development and operation of Sommer Oil & Gas, and Water Runner, Inc. In 1998 Scott founded Water Runner, Inc, a small potable and R/O water delivery company. As a businessman, Water Runner was his baby. In 2012 his son Brenham joined him at Water Runner and together they grew the company to be the premiere water delivery service for the Midland/Odessa area.
He greatly enjoyed the people he employed, the customers he served and the friends he grew to have from the working community in Midland. In 2023 he felt it was finally time to reap the rewards of his hard work, sell the businesses and retire. Here his focus shifted to those most important to him, his family. Stepping down from leadership into the more vulnerable place of prioritizing time for the next generation. Learning to listen, care, and to come alongside the lives of his son, Brenham and daughter-in-law, Autumn, and grandchildren, Garrett, Caroline, and Harper. Here, he was most proud and rewarded as father, dad, and Pop Pop.
Scott is survived by his son, Brenham (Autumn) Sommer of Midland, TX, sister, Cindy (Greg) Hammond of Ft. Myers, FL, brother, John (Debi) Sommer of Lubbock, TX, cherished grandchildren, Garrett, Caroline, and Harper; nephews and nieces, Ryan (Melissa) Hammond, Meagan (Sam) Schneider, Chelsea (Jake) Brock and Tristan (Mara) Ray; great nieces and nephew, Stella Rue and Ainslee Kae Hammond, and Walker Allen Ray. Scott was preceded in death by his father, Jim, mother, Kay and nephew, Jason Hammond.
